So you cannot email invitations to your guests. You should still have formal invitation cards printed out and mailed by the postal system.

A modern etiquette demands that the wedding expenses no longer have to be undertaken only by the bride's family. Since weddings have gotten more lavish the expenses too have increased. As a result this fair principle has emerged where both sides divide the overall expenses.
